On Friday morning, several personalities from Kollywood fraternity gathered at the new office opened for Raaj Kamal Films International, the production company of Kamal Haasan. A statue of his mentor and director K Balachander was unveiled at the event and it was attended by the likes of Rajinikanth, Mani Ratnam, Nasser, Santhana Bharathi, Ramesh Arvind and Gnanasambandam among others. The elated fans of the ‘Indian 2’ actor started widely sharing pictures from the function with the hashtag #Kamal60.
What made many upset was the presence of lyricist Vairamuthu among the guests. Twitterati expressed their shock and displeasure over the lyric writer, who was accused by many as sexual offender, roaming free and shaking hands with other participants at the event.
A few tweets criticised both Kamal and Rajini for sharing the dias with Vairamuthu. Some of them questioned the senior actors’ claims of providing good governance to public which they made in the past as tweeple couldn’t digest them associating with a #MeToo accused. Mani Ratnam, too, was slammed by the disappointed social media users.
