While we’re all getting hung up on the chorus of “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” by Jaskier in Season 1 of The Witcher on Netflix, we’re already clamouring for more adventures of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.
It appears our wait for Season 2 will be made more bearable with even more Witcher coming to Netflix in the form of an anime movie entitled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf releasing in Summer 2020!
First reported by io9 and later confirmed by @NXOnNetflix on Twitter, the original show’s producers Lauren Hissrich and Beau DeMayo were hard at work establishing The Witcher as a prominent franchise on the streamer, with the main live-action series now supported with an animated movie to flesh out The Continent and its denizens.
While we don’t yet have a logo, images or a trailer, what we do know is that Nightmare of the Wolf is a standalone story from the main show, and will be animated by the folks at Studio Mir.
Based in Korea, Studio Mir was responsible for the visually-scintillating The Legend of Korra in 2012, as well as Voltron: Legendary Defender in 2016, so you can certainly expect the visual style of Nightmare of the Wolf to be in good hands.
Also, as the show’s title suggests, it’s probably safe to assume that Geralt of Rivia could return as the main protagonist, though it remains to be seen whether Henry Cavill will lend his voice to the anime.
Here’s the logline of Nightmare of the Wolf:
The world of The Witcher expands in this anime film that explores a new threat facing the Continent.
Ever since the airing of the first season of The Witcher, its popularity has exploded within just a month, becoming one of the hottest TV series globally, beating out the likes of The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones Season 8 and Stranger Things.
In the meantime, if you’re curious to see how the Butcher of Blaviken could look like in animated form, here’s a short made by the folks at mashed:

Marion has a serious RPG addiction. Sometimes it bleeds into real life; he forgets to sleep because he thinks he has a Witcher’s body clock. Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
