D'Arcy Short has cracked an explosive Big Bash League half-century to spearhead the Hobart Hurricanes to an 11-run victory over a fast-finishing Adelaide Strikers.
Coming off a first-ball duck in Hobart's season opening win over the Sixers, Short bounced back with 72 from 48 balls which included three sixes and a four from one Rashid Khan over.
Short was given a life on 23 when Dan Worrall dropped a sitter at fine leg off Peter Siddle's bowling.
He was travelling at around a run-a-ball until throwing the kitchen sink at Khan in an over that went for 25, his most expensive in the BBL.
Chasing 5-174, the Strikers fell to 9-102 in the 15th over before tailenders Worrall and English import Danny Briggs combined to give their side an outside chance.
No.8 Worrall (62 from 39) and No. 11 Briggs (35 from 18) got the chase down to 18 off the final over.
But Hobart veteran Scott Boland conceded just five runs as the Strikers pair finished unbeaten.
Speedster Riley Meredith took 2-30 and pulled off a soccer-style run-out in his follow through, while James Faulkner claimed three scalps.
After being sent in at Blundstone Arena on Sunday, Short shared a 63-run opening partnership with Englishman Will Jacks (34 from 25).
Short fell in the 15th over to Wes Agar, who was the pick of Adelaide bowlers with 2-28 from four overs.
Tim David, coming off a half-century in the Hurricanes win over the Sixers, hit a valuable unbeaten 21 from 13 balls at the death.
Worrall was taken out of the attack late in the Hobart innings with one delivery remaining in his spell after bowling two balls above waist height.
