I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here returns tonight for its seventh season, and the show has unveiled its first two contestants for this year, comedian Mel Buttle and singer-actress Toni Pearen, with not a trace of Pete Evans to be seen.
As you may recall, I’m A Celebrity thought it would be a good idea to cast Evans, before the show was forced to drop him late last year over his increasingly unhinged social media posts. It is rumoured that fellow MKR host Colin Fassnidge will replace him.
The first of this year’s officially confirmed celebrities is Pearen, who appeared on the Aussie soap opera E Street in the early ’90s, before embarking on a pop career. The second is Buttle, a stand-up comedian who hosted The Great Australian Bake-Off.
There have been rumours about other potential cast members in the weeks leading up to this, with reports that Bachelor star Abbie Chatfield will appear, alongside Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen and Australian Idol’s Paulini Curuenavuli.
I’m A Celebrity can’t film internationally this year thanks to COVID, so instead, the word is that the production chose to set up camp in Murwillumbah, in north-eastern New South Wales, a short hop to both Byron and the Gold Coast.
One rumoured challenge features various cast mates skydiving into Clarrie Hall Dam, which is located approximately 15 kilometres south-west of Murwillumbah. I guess we’ll see how it all plays out very soon.
