The Boyle County Rebels boys’ soccer team recently appointed Ty Short as their new head coach for the 2021 season.
Short played for the Rebels from 2006 to 2010. During his time, he helped lead the Rebels to a final four berth, which is still the best in school history. He even scored a goal and got an assist in a 2-0 win over Corbin in the regional championship.
After his illustrious high school career, he went on to play for Milligan College and then eventually returned to the area to help coach at Danville.
Just last year, Short joined the Boyle soccer staff as an assistant and middle school coach, but was surprised to find himself in charge after former head coach Jeremy Carlson was briefly unable to coach due to COVID-19 restrictions.
His short, yet eventful, spell as interim head coach saw the Rebels win both a district and regional championship before Carlson was able to rejoin the team.
Short will no doubt look to duplicate that success in the upcoming season, if not improve upon it.
