Former New York Giants linebacker Brandon Short has established a scholarship fund in honor of his late daughter, Karli, who was murdered in a Pittsburgh suburb last September.

The Karli Short Better Tomorrow Scholarship will “support students at Penn State Greater Allegheny, located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and the endowment will assist students with financial needs who have been affected by gun violence.”

Among those who are scheduled to attend the July 15 “Better Tomorrow Gala” include former Giants linebacker Lavar Arrington.

Karli Short, 26, was five months pregnant when she was found shot to death on a McKeesport street on September 13. Authorities charged the unborn child’s father, Isaac Smith, with the murder.

Brandon Short was a fourth-round pick by the Giants out of Penn State in the 2000 NFL draft. Short played four seasons for the Giants before signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent in 2004. He returned to the Giants in 2006 where he closed out his career.
