A few extra minutes would have benefited the Lone Star boys in last Tuesday’s home opener.
The Longhorns played host to Idalia in league action, where both teams started out even in a 7-7- first period. The Wolves gained some momentum in the second and outscored their hosts 16-11 to take a 23-18 halftime lead.
The third quarter was all Idalia, as the Wolves kept the pressure to put up 18 points to the Longhorns’ eight. With the final eight minutes on the clock, Lone Star was trailing 26-41. The Longhorns exploded for a huge 22-13 fourth quarter, but came up just short in the 48-54 loss.
Senior Brady Kuntz ended the night with 16 points, three blocks, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Liam Garza added eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. Junior Dakoda Cox had seven points, one block, two rebounds, three assists and five steals. Sophomore Abraham Martinez had six points, four rebounds and one assist. Senior Zaiah McMeekin had five points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals. Junior Ethan Glenn had four points and two rebounds. Freshman Wyatt Cochran had two points, five rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Kolton Hansen had one rebound. Freshman Mahiro Yamamoto had one steal.
The Longhorns went into Briggsdale yesterday, February 9 looking for their first win at Briggsdale. The boys keep things on the road later this week with a trip to Longmont Christian Thursday, February 11 and to Prairie Saturday, February 13.
