Celeb hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons shares how to achieve viral 'Farrah Fawcett' look - New York Post

There’s nothing quite like the 70s.

Known as an era of radical change and radical hair, its styles have come back around again and again.

And we can thank hair legend Farrah Fawcett for that. The Charlie’s Angel taught us how to be free, fun and sexy with wispy bangs and big volume.

Celebrated for her award-winning roles, pin-up poses and amazing locks, the 70s starlet is the definition of iconic.

The actor’s feathered look is lauded for its effortless flow, infinite layers and knockout bangs.

Now, thanks to social media, the beauty’s staple hair-do is making a major comeback.

The hairstyle saw new life online after TikTok user Groovy_Mal gave a quick tutorial on how to accomplish Fawcett’s signature look.

Racking up millions of views across multiple social media platforms, it’s the trend that everyone is trying. But if you’re struggling with products or can’t get it right at home, we’ve got you covered.

We spoke with celebrity hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons about the viral 70s look.

And since he’s known for working with superstars such as the Kardashian family, Joan Smalls and Bella Hadid, he’s the perfect choice to give us a breakdown of the trendy look.

How has social media changed the world of hair?
Social media has completely revolutionized the hair industry through the years. Anyone can make social media content about a hairstyle that can go completely viral in a matter of hours if it catches people’s attention — which can range from a haircut to a product. Social media has also allowed people to become more confident with their hair by trying new styles and products for their hair type. The possibilities are endless!
How do you feel about the resurgence of this 70s style?
I personally love the resurgence of the 70s hairstyles. The biggest trend right now is taking beauty inspiration from the past. Right now, it’s the 70s’ time to shine. The classic Farrah Fawcett blowout is such a timeless and flattering look on so many different people. It helps shape the face with the curtain bangs and blends with layers all throughout.
What are some products you recommend for this trend (across hair types)?
To achieve the classic Farrah Fawcett look, I’d recommend having a blow dryer or curling iron, hair rollers, smoothing oil, and a volumizing spray. Some products I’d recommend are the Dyson Air Wrap, T3 1.25″ Professional Ceramic Curling Iron to curl the ends, and any hair rollers from the local drugstore or Amazon. To smooth out the flyaways try the NatureLab Perfect Smooth Hair Oil, and the TIGI Bed Hard Head Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray to lock it all in.

Give us a breakdown of how to accomplish the trendy look?

Here is step by step how to accomplish this look:

1. Use a heat protectant and blow-dry the hair if needed

2. Section out the hair

3. Use a blow dryer attachment to curl the hair away from your face

4. Use a hair roller for each piece of curled hair and pin it to hold the roller up

5. Let all rollers sit for at least 20 minutes to let the curls set.

6. Take out curlers, spritz volumizing spray to the roots, comb through the hair, and apply smoothing oil to ends.

Optional: If you don’t want to comb it out, flip hair over, shake and flip again for some va-va-volume.

What other hair trends are you looking forward to seeing this year?

I’m excited to see the mullet come back in style, which has already been happening a bit. Celebs like Miley Cyrus, Zendaya and Barbie Ferraira have already been seen pulling off this look and I think it’s going to get even more trendy as the year goes on.
