This year, both the Bearcat men's and women's teams will take part in the Gold Races, which are considered the most competitive college races of the meet. The men's 8K begins at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 6K at 11:45.
The Bearcats head into the event having swept the team titles at the America East Pre-Conference Meet back on Sept. 18. Seniors Emily Mackay and Aziza Chigatayeva took the top two places in the women's race while graduate student Dan Schaffer captured the men's individual title.
Three years ago, Schaffer won the men's Brown Race at the Lehigh Paul Short Run. His 8K time of 24:47 tied for the sixth-fastest time of the meet.
The best Binghamton individual performance in the men's Gold Race was turned in by Erik van Ingen, who was eighth out of 387 runners in 2010. His time was 24:04. The previous year, he clocked a program-best 24:03 in finishing 17th out of 389 runners.
Two years ago, Chigatayevea placed 40th out of 397 runners in the women's Gold Race with a time of 20:47. The previous year, she was 31st out of 362 runners in the women's Brown Race with a time of 22:33.
The best Bearcat individual performance in the women's Brown Race was turned in by Katie Radzik back in 2006. She was 13th out of 237 runners with a time of 21:14. The previous year, she was 15th out of 207 runners with a time of 21:02.
