HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel men's soccer team (2-4, 1-1 CAA) came up short against Hofstra (5-1, 1-1 CAA) in a conference game on Saturday afternoon, 2-1. The Dragons scored late in the second half to cut the deficit to one, but it was not enough to overcome the Pride in Hempstead, N.Y.

The Pride scored their first goal in the 18th minute of the game. Hofstra was fouled inside the penalty area and was given a penalty kick. Storm Strongin took the opportunity and sent the ball into the back of the net to give Hofstra the lead. In the second half, the Pride added an insurance goal. In the 69th minute, Hendrik Hebbeker scored an unassisted goal to take a 2-0 lead over the Dragons.

Senior Kyle Tucker stepped up in the 88th minute and scored a goal from about 25 yards out to squash Hofstra's hope of shutting out the Dragons. Harrison Coron had a chance inside the penalty area but elected to feed the ball to Tucker. The senior then ripped a shot and curled it past the diving keeper and into the goal.

Cameron Sanders earned his fifth start of the season in goal for Drexel and played a large part in spoiling many of Hofstra's chances on scoring. The redshirt-senior saved four official shots for the Dragons.

The Dragons and Pride were even in shots at 14 apiece, but Drexel had an advantage in shots on target. The Dragons tallied eight, while the Pride had six.

Drexel travels to Columbia on Tuesday, September 21, to face the Lions in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
