For the second time in less than a week, a former NFL player is mourning the premature death of his daughter.
Terezowens.com reports former New York Giants linebacker Brandon Short posted the following message Monday on Facebook:
My heart is broken. I’ve lost the light of my life, my oldest daughter Karli passed away this morning in a senseless act of gun violence. The love she had was so pure and true. The world lost a beautiful soul. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and please keep our family in your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time.
FOX News has some of the details of Karli Short’s death Monday:
Police said the victim, identified as Karli Short, 26, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head following a report of a female down around 10:30 a.m., in an area of McKeesport, about 12 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Allegheny County Police Department.
The Giants selected Short in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft out of Penn State, where he earned an All-American honors.
Short played in 11 games as a rookie, then proceeded to play all 16 games in each of the next three seasons for New York.
He spent 2004 and 2005 with the Carolina Panthers, returning for a final season with the Giants in 2006. Short played seven NFL seasons, compiling 390 tackles, 9.5 sacks and two interceptions.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, “Short has served on Penn State University’s Board of Trustees since July 2018. He is executive director and portfolio manager at PGIM Real Estate, a global real estate company.” Penn State officials released a statement on Tuesday:
“Our hearts go out to Trustee Brandon Short and Karli Short’s family and friends during this difficult time,” University President Eric Barron said. “My heart is heavy as I think about the traumatic effect this tragic loss of a young person will have on the entire McKeesport community. Our condolences go out to Brandon and the entire Short family. ... That her life was cut short too soon as a result of an act of violence is a tragedy for Karli and her family and friends, and a great loss to the members of the McKeesport community. Our sympathy goes out to all who knew her best and loved her most.”
The Allegheny County police department, which is investigating Karli Short’s death, has not released any details on a possible suspect or motive.

Also on Monday, former New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk lost his 19-year-old daughter. Kevione Faulk was a a student worker on the LSU football staff, where her father is the running backs coach. No cause of death has been announced.
Kevin Faulk played at LSU in the mid-1990s. He became the school’s all-time leading rusher before entering the NFL and winning three Super Bowl titles in 13 seasons with New England.
ESPN reports Kevin Faulk will not be with LSU on Saturday when the Tigers face Central Michigan.
