EAST GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T Aggies dropped a Sunday contest to the Longwood Lancers, 10-5, inside War Memorial Stadium in Big South Conference baseball action.

The Aggies have now lost four straight and are 9-13, including 0-3 in league play.

The Lancers (12-12, 5-1) struck first for the third straight game. Hunter Gilliam smacked a fly out deep enough into center field in the third inning to score Dylan Wilkinson from third on an RBI sacrifice fly.

The Aggies answered in the home half, however.

Junior third baseman Anthony Hennings, batting in the lead-off spot Sunday, led off with a single up the middle. Two batters later, and after Hennings stole second, graduate designated hitter Tyshawn Barrett singled up the middle to score A&T's first run.

Hennings would go 3-for-5 on the day and score twice. He is now batting an absurd .413 with a team-high 31 hits.

Longwood put another run on the board in the fourth on an RBI single from Drayven Kowalski, making it 2-1, before plating six in a 45-minute top of the fifth. The Lancers coupled four hits with two wild pitches from Aggie starter Peyton Winebarger (L, 2-2) to take an 8-1 lead.

Winebarger started the game hot for A&T, striking out five of the first six batters he faced. Unfortunately, for the Aggies, he came back down to earth in the third, walking a batter and throwing three wild pitches. Winebarger exited the game with a line of 4.1 innings pitched, allowing eight runs on six hits to go with the five strikeouts.

After the top of the eighth inning, Longwood led by as many as nine, 10-1.

The Aggies gave their best comeback effort in the home half, beginning with another single from Hennings. Sophomore outfielder TJ Ash drew a walk to follow, and two batters later, Barrett did the same, loading the bases with one out.

Then, sophomore outfielder Shemar Dalton smacked a two-RBI single to right field in his first start of the season, scoring Hennings and Ash to make it 10-3.

Freshman catcher Canyon Brown followed and just missed a home run, lining out to deep left center field. Brown did, however, go 2-for-4 on the day and finish the weekend 7-for-11 (.636).

Junior outfielder Cameran Brantley stepped to the plate with two outs and laced a single through the right side to score Barrett from third and advance Dalton over to the hot corner. Redshirt sophomore Justice Panton, also making his first start, followed with another single right up the middle to score Dalton to make it 10-5. But sophomore infielder Alex Reyna flew out to end the frame.

Ash drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth, but junior infielder Cort Maynard grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
