MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — The NC State men's and women's swimming programs will be well represented at the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships with seven current and former members of the Pack competing, as well as NC State's own Braden Holloway and Brian Barnes coaching at the World Championship meet. The six-day short course meter competition will be held Dec. 13-18 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
Holloway's honor of being named Team USA's Head Coach marks his third time leading the country's top swimmers on the international stage. He's previously served as Team USA's men's head coach at the 2019 World University Games and as an Assistant Coach at the same meet in 2017. Wolfpack Associate Head Coach Brian Barnes will also be at the world championship meet as a coach for Slovakia's Andrea Podmanikova, a current NC State graduate student.
Nyls Korstanje (Netherlands), Kacper Stokowski (Poland) and alumni Sirena Rowe (Columbia) and Andreas Vazaios (Greece) will kick things off on Tuesday (Monday in the United States), as they compete in the 50 butterfly (Korstanje, Rowe), 100 backstroke (Stokowski), and 200 individual medley (Vazaios).
To round out the Wolfpack's representation at the meet, David Curtiss (United States), Andrea Podmanikova (Slovakia), and alumna Sophie Hansson (Sweden) will each compete for their respective countries.
