ORONO, Maine – After tying the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning, the Hartford baseball team's late comeback fell short, dropping a tough 7-5 result at Maine this afternoon. The Hawks fall to 6-29 overall and 5-14 in America East play while the Black Bears improve to 21-14 on the year and 16-3 in conference play.

MAINE 7, HARTFORD 5
Maine opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Hawks quickly responded in the top half of the second. With two outs, Daniel Burnett singled to left field, setting up Kevin Koziol in the next at-bat. Koziol would rip a ground rule double to left center, plating Burnett, and cutting the gap to 2-1. However, Maine would go on to take a 4-1 lead heading into the sixth inning. The Hawks would use more two out magic to claw their way back into the game. Derek Tenney led off with a single before Noah Rivera was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second with no outs. The Hawks quickly picked up two outs, but Ben Maycock would come up clutch for the Hawks. A hard-hit single to the third baseman saw the Black Bear's infielder commit a throwing error, allowing Tenney and Rivera to score and pull Hartford within one, 4-3. Burnett kept the momentum going, singling to left field, scoring Maycock and knotting the score at 4-4.

The Black Bears would retake a 5-4 advantage after the bottom half of the sixth, but the Hawks continued to fight back, levelling the score a few innings later. In the top of the eighth, Tenney led things off with another single before stealing second base. Tremayne Cobb Jr. would step up to the plate, ripping a single to left field, bringing home Tenney and tying the game at 5-5. Maine would reestablish a 7-5 lead heading into the ninth, but the Hawks would not go down without a fight. Maycock and Burnett drew walks to start off the inning. With two outs, Ryan Knight drew a walk of his own, loading the bases. However, the Hawks could not capitalize late, falling in game one of the series, 7-5.
