HAMDEN, Conn. – A late comeback effort fell short as the Hartford baseball team fell, 9-8, in extra innings at Quinnipiac this afternoon. After the Hawks tied the game at 8-8 with a three-run eighth, the Bobcats won the contest in 11 innings. With the result, the Hawks drop to 4-21 while Quinnipiac move to 7-19.

QUINNIPIAC 9, HARTFORD 8 (11 inn.)
After Quinnipiac took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Hawks responded quick with back-to-back two run frames. Jake Santiago, Noah Rivera and Daniel Burnett all reached base in the opening at-bats, loading the bases for Tyler Holmes. Holmes would hit a ball deep enough into the infield to plate Santiago and cut Quinnipiac's lead to 2-1. In the next at-bat, Kyle Hawes singled to left field, bringing home River and knotting the score at 2-2. Brett Anderson ripped a single to center field with one out in the third before stealing second base. With two outs, Rivera got on base via a Bobcats error, allowing Anderson to score and extend the lead to 3-1. Burnett followed up the error with an infield single, scoring Rivera and furthering the gap to 4-1.

Quinnipiac however would score six unanswered runs to regain a 7-4 lead heading into the seventh. The Hawks would pull one back in the top half of the seventh as Tremayne Cobb Jr. drew a walk to open the frame. Advancing to third via two wild pitches, Cobb Jr. reached home after an error by the Bobcat's shortstop, bringing the score to 7-5. Quinnipiac would tack on one more in the bottom half of the inning, but Hartford exploded for a big inning in the eighth. Holmes drew a walk to lead off before Kyle Hawes reached second on an error, brining Holmes to third. Logan Cole would then step-up, launching a single to center field, scoring both Hawes and Holmes and cutting the gap to 8-7. After a Martin Chavarria sacrifice bunt moved Cole to second base, Cobb Jr. singled to the outfield, plating Cole and knotting the score at 8-8.

Edwin Almanzar Jr., who entered the game in the fifth inning, shut down the Bobcat's over the final two innings, sending the game into extras. However, it would be Quinnipiac who walked it off in extra frames, winning the game in the bottom of the 11th, 9-8.
