YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --The Eastern Michigan University baseball squad put together a ferocious comeback, scoring four runs in the ninth inning, but the late-game rally came up short as Eastern fell to Western Michigan University, 6-4, Sunday afternoon inside Oestrike Stadium.
Sophomore Nick Chittum (Grosse Ile, Mich.-Grosse Ile) (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Eastern Michigan (10-15, 6-6 MAC). Freshman Dom Anderson (Hagerstown, Ind.-Hagerstown) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing only one hit, walking none, and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Eagles were led by senior Daniel Warkentin (Leamington, Ontario.-Leamington District (Parkland)), who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and three walks. Junior Matt Kirk (Milford, Ohio-Milford (Toledo)) compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
Classmate Gabe Denton (Clare, Mich.-Clare (North Iowa)) also contributed for Eastern Michigan, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.
How It Happened
EMU trailed the entire contest until the Green and White's bats broke out in the final frame, earning four runs on four hits in the ninth, including a two-run single off the bat of Kirk. The Eagles were unable to get any closer and dropped the Sunday matinee 6-4.

» Warkentin led the Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and three walks. The three free passes are also a season-high for the second baseman.
» Kirk finished with a base knock on Sunday. The hit extends the left fielder's hitting streak to eight games. In that eight-game span, Kirk has totaled 10 hits, seven RBIs, and three home runs.
» Denton went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored, reaching base safely three times. It is the sixth time this season Denton has tabbed multiple walks in a contest.
» Seniors Christian Bault (Maineville, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller (Lincoln Trails)) and Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller) contributed offensively for the Eagles as the duo each tallied an RBI.
