KENT, OHIO- Kent State's comeback fell short against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday night, falling 8-6 in front of an overcapacity crowd at Schoonover Stadium.

The middle part of the order went 7-14 with four runs scored for the Golden Flashes as Josh Johnson, Mack Timbrook and Justin Kirby all had multi-hit games.

Ohio State jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a four-run second inning. The Flashes got half of them back in the bottom of the fourth. Collin Mathews started the rally with a run-scoring single. Connor Ashby added a bases loaded walk and Payton Pennington's hustle forced an errant throw to bring home a third run.

Kent State threatened to tie the game in the seventh. The Johnson-Timbrook-Kirby trio started the inning triple, single, double to make it a 7-5 game. It was nearly a one-run contest, but Kirby was cut down trying to score on a wild pitch. The Flashes did make it a one-run game in the eighth with Nick Elsen scoring from first on a Josh Johnson double.

Ohio State made it an 8-6 game in the ninth but Aidan Longwell was able to get a double play to end the inning. The Flashes got two on in the ninth but could find the equalizer.

The loss drops Kent State to 17-23 on the season. They welcome in Ball State for a key four-game weekend series. The Flashes will be honoring their graduating class as well as celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the 2012 College World Series team. For tickets and information, visit KentStateSports.com.
