Today is Championship day at the 2022 IIHF World Championship. Before Winnipeg Jets‘ forwards, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Adam Lowry compete for a Gold Medal against host-nation Finland this afternoon, first, the bronze medalist had to be declared.
The Bronze Medal game featured Winnipeg Jets defenseman, Nate Schmidt and the United States of America versus Czechia.
Both teams entered this game looking to avenge their semifinal loss. The U.S. lost to Finland 4-3, while Czechia lost 6-1 to Canada in Saturday’s action. It is also worth noting that Czechia got the upper hand on the United States during the preliminary round, as Czechia beat the U.S. 1-0 during round-robin play.

The U.S. started this game extremely strong as they scored the first two goals of this game and then the teams traded a pair of goals at the end of the first frame. Schmidt added an assist on the U.S.’s third goal and they took a 3-1 lead into the locker room after one period.
Czechia then found their game during the second and third periods. The Czechs were able to score a goal in the second to find themselves trailing by one after two.
The third period was all Czechia as they scored five unanswered goals to start the final frame and then both teams added a tally in the final minutes of regulation. Ultimately Czechia won the Bronze Medal over the United States by an 8-4 scoreline.
Schmidt’s finished this game with one assist, two shots, and a minus-1 plus/minus in 27:37 of ice time.
Nate Schmidt’s Final Tournament Stats
This was Schmidt’s first time representing the U.S. at the Worlds. In 10 tournament games, he finished with two goals, four assists, a plus-two plus/minus, and averaged 23:45 of ice time per game. Schmidt ranked top-five among all players in time played per game at this tournament.
