The Connecticut Hammerheads lost 14-10 to the Philadelphia Barrage in Annapolis, Md. on Monday afternoon.
Connecticut (0-2) quickly found itself down 4-0, but Sean Sconone’s save off his foot in the ninth minute provided a spark for the Hammerheads. The Hammerheads’ Noah Rak kept Alex Woodall mostly in check on faceoffs, also scoring a coast-to-coast goal to help the Hammerheads close the gap to make it 4-3 after the first horn.
Connecticut’s Bradley Voigt had two second-quarter goals to bring his total to five on the season and Will Sands scored twice while adding two assists on the day. However, whenever Connecticut would gain momentum, Philadelphia responded in a hurry. Mark Matthews had a monster game (4 goals, 1 assist) and Brendan Sunday added four goals of his own for the Barrage.
The Hammerheads were held without a goal for almost 30 straight minutes of play.
Connecticut failed to convert on several opportunities due to several clutch saves from Barrage goalie Chris Madalon. Sconone also had a bounce back day in net for the Hammerheads.
The Hammerheads are back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday against the New York Lizards.
