I'm a Celeb 2020 base camp 'spotted' for first time in Welsh countryside - Daily Record

A woman claims to have caught the first glimpse of the new I’m a Celeb campsite ahead of the show’s first ever show broadcast from the UK.

Bosses behind the popular ITV reality show have been forced to film the show closer to home instead of at its usual Australia location due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Celebrities will instead take a short journey into Wales as this year’s competition takes place in a castle ruin, reports the Mirror.

Rumours spread online after a castle in North Wales suddenly announved it would be closing in a Facebook post.

Gwrych Castle officials wrote: “Gwrych Castle and Estate will be temporarily closing to the public at 5pm on Sunday, August 23 until New Year. Keep checking our website and social media for updates.”

But now a new potential location has been spotted around 20 miles from the castle.

Caroline George spotted what she things is a brand new "base camp" being built, sparking rumours it will be where the celebs spend their stay.

Caroline posted photos on Twitter of huts being erected in the area, and suggested they were being used for the ITV show.

She told North Wales Live she also saw security vans and TV production crews heading into the site on the north-western edge of the nearby revervoir.

She revealed: “We parked in the outside top end of the reservoir, so there were very few people around.

"You also can’t see them [the huts] from the visitor centre."

A savvy Twitter user took photos of the camp being erected

ITV has not yet confirmed where the series is set to take place this year.

It was recently reported show bookers are struggling to find talent who want to spend three weeks in the wet and windy Welsh countryside rather than the sunny outback of Queensland.

A celebrity agent told Talk TV: “Moving the show is a huge mistake – and they’ll need to put up more pounds to secure decent names in the future.

“The show doesn’t have the same appeal; they’d be better off scrapping it this year and returning once they’re able to film again in Australia.”
