Lincoln, Neb.- Despite a record effort from sophomore captain Cecelia Ossi, the Nebraska rifle team dropped its fourth straight match, falling to Akron by a score of 4,705-4,687 on Saturday. The Huskers dipped to 5-4 on the season.
"It was a decent start coming back from a break," Head Coach Mindy Miles said of the match. "Each team member concluded the match with beneficial feedback for a productive training week."
Ossi earned a second place overall finish with an aggregate score of 1,182. She was joined in the top ten by sophomore Madelynn Erickson in sixth (1,171) and senior Elena Flake in seventh (1,171).
Four Huskers finished in the top ten in the smallbore. Ossi placed second with a 585, Erickson placed fourth with a 582, Flake placed fifth with a 582 and fifth-year Emily Cheramie placed ninth with a 577.
In the air rifle, Ossi placed first with a 597, which is her career best score and tied the Nebraska Rifle Range record held by four others.
"My success today is an accumulation of the work my coaches and teammates have put in, along with the blessings the Lord has given me. I am so thankful for all of the support from my family and friends back home and I hope they know I miss them every day," Ossi said.
NU's scoring lineup was rounded out by Erickson in seventh (589) and Flake in eighth (589).
The team will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska, for a match against Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Jan. 22 and a match against Air Force on Jan. 23.
