DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a late charge, the La Salle men's basketball team fell just short in their comeback bid against the league-leading Davidson Wildcats on Saturday afternoon inside the Belk Arena.

The loss drops the Explorers to 6-12 (1-7 A-10) while Davidson continues its hot streak of 16 wins in its last 17 to move to 17-3 (7-1 A-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The early start looked to affect the Explorers early on, opening 0-6 from the field as the hosts took an early 8-0 lead. Jack Clark gave the visitors their first bucket with a corner three to cut the run.
  • Davidson increased its lead to 22-8 before a pair of Explorer threes once again trimmed the deficit to under 10.
  • The Wildcats again would increase their lead to double-digits, unwilling to allow the Explorers grab any momentum. With 6:30 left in the opening frame, Davidson's fourth of six threes of the opening frame extended the advantage to 29-16.
  • The Explorers rallied, scoring 14 of the next 22 points to end the half as five different players helped tackle the Wildcat lead, trailing 37-30 at the break.
  • Jhamir Brickus helped rally the Explorers to trail by just five, finding Christian Ray wide open for a deep three before fighting through contact on the next possession and forcing the shot to go through the net, Davidson leading by just 40-35.
  • La Salle found itself on the wrong end of a flurry of fouls, pushing the Wildcats into the double bonus with 10 minutes remaining while holding an 11 point lead.
  • Khalil Brantley led the charge late, grabbing six points in a two-minute span to cut the Wildcat lead to 67-59.
  • La Salle used a 10-4 run, forcing three turnovers in a 1:41 minute span to trail by as little as four as the Explorers faced a 73-69 deficit with 52 seconds remaining.
  • The Wildcats capitalized on late free throw attempts in their final two possessions, keeping the Explorers off the board to hold on to a 77-69 win to remain atop the Atlantic 10 standings.

GAME NOTES
  • Clark has continued his surge in conference play, finishing with a team-high 18 points in the defeat, his fifth game in double-digits in the last six games. The Cheltenham guard also added six rebounds to his day.
  • Moore finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. The 14 points marks his eighth-straight game in double-figures.
  • Eight of Brantley's 11 points came in the second half, the rookie finishing with an additional four assists. Brantley was an efficient 7-8 from the charity stripe.
  • Ray secured a team-high nine rebounds while adding seven points, also registering two steals in his effort. Brickus finished with eight points and three assists.
  • The Explorers shot 25-63 (39.7%) from the field while the Wildcats finished 24-52 (46.2%).
  • Luka Brajkovic finished with a game-high 22 points for Davidson, Hyunjung Lee and Foster Loyer adding 14 points each.
  • The Wildcats led from start to finish, La Salle never holding an advantage against the 25th ranked team in the country.

UP NEXT
  • The Explorers continue their hectic schedule, heading back on the road to face George Washington on February 2.
  • The tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
