TULSA, Okla. – The University of Memphis football team fell on the road to American Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Tulsa, 35-29, on Saturday night at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Trailing by 15 with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers (3-3, 0-2 AAC) cut the Golden Hurricane (2-4, 1-1 AAC) lead to one score twice, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Redshirt senior wide receiver Calvin Austin III continued his record-breaking season for Memphis, reeling in 13 receptions for 200 yards and a touchdown. The 200-yard receiving game was the fifth-most in school history and marked his fifth-straight 100-yard receiving game, matching his own program record.
True freshman quarterback Seth Henigan completed 34-of-57 passes for a career-high 463 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Henigan's 463 yards rank fourth-most in school history. He also rushed for a career-high 37 yards.
Tight end Sean Dykes caught all four passes thrown his way for 47 yards, including a nine-yard score. Redshirt freshman running back Brandon Thomas rushed 18 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, defensive backs Quindell Johnson and Sanchez Blake Jr. led the Tigers with eight tackles each.
The Memphis Tigers will return to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 14, when the team plays host to AAC rival Navy at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
