"There's a reason why I think Army is the best team in the league right now," said head coach Dean Koski. "They have the make up to be a really good team."
Army's leading goal-scorer, Gage Guerra, found the back of the net in the 11th minute. The rest of the half was a defensive battle between both teams.
Lehigh didn't get its first shot until the 38th minute, which would end up being the only shot the Mountain Hawks would get in the first half.
While the Black Knights scored in the 54th minute, Lehigh came out with a lot more energy in the second half as Lehigh outshot Army 11-7 over the final 45 minutes.
"We didn't really get off on our front foot the first half and didn't play a great half as I would have liked, but I was really pleased with how we responded when we went down two goals," Koski said.
Perry Kingson got Lehigh on board in the 69th minute and gave the Mountain Hawks some much-needed energy. While the Mountain Hawks had plenty of opportunities and even a few free kicks, they ultimately just couldn't find the equalizer.
With the regular season coming to an end soon, each matchup is going to have a ton of intensity, and that's what tonight's match was. It was pretty scrappy with a combined 15 fouls and two yellow cards for Lehigh, while Army had one yellow card.
Since only six teams make it to the Patriot League Tournament, Lehigh will have to finish strong against Boston University and Colgate to have a chance at making the tournament. First, the Mountain Hawks will host Drexel Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
"We need to try to get healthy and get some starters back in the lineup," Koski said. "I'm optimistic that's going to happen by the time we get to Boston and we've got to be fresh going into Boston."
