EASTON, Pa. – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to Lafayette Sunday at Rappolt Field.
Richmond, now 5-6 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 action, returns to Crenshaw Field to host La Salle for an Atlantic 10 Conference contest under the lights Friday. The match-up is set for a 6 p.m. start on ESPN+.
Lafayette took the early lead, scoring in the sixth minute of action. Senior Regan McCrossan (Waxhaw, N.C.) tied the contest with 27 seconds left in the first quarter, putting back in a rebound for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The second quarter had a similar look. Lafayette broke the tie early in the quarter, at the 20th minute, and Richmond worked hard to score before the end of the period. Freshman Lainey Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) tallied her third goal of the season with six seconds before halftime to tie the game at 2-all.
Richmond opened the second half with more intensity on the attacking third of the field, firing off seven shots, with three on frame, and picking up four corners after not earning one in the first half. Unfortunately, Lafayette broke up the tie in the 43rd minute for a 3-2 lead on one of their three shots of the quarter.
Senior Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) tied the contest in the 49th minute with her fifth goal of the season, converting a corner play of a pass from junior Olivia De Cain (Bryn Mawr, Pa.). Lafayette answered with the eventual game-winner in the 54th minute, converting on a penalty corner.
Senior Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made five saves in the 12 shots she faced in 60 minutes of action in goal for Richmond.
