Ant and Dec have just confirmed two new cast members will be joining the line up of I’m a Celebrity 2020, and one of them is Ruthie Henshall.
I’m A Celebrity is back and in full swing with a new episode on ITV every night.
The new series kicked off on Sunday night with a brand new selection of celebrities who entered this year's version of the jungle.
We say 'version' because this year the jungle will actually be a castle in Wales.
To comply with Covid-19 restrictions and the current lockdown, producers have swapped the Australian jungle for the Welsh Countryside, based around Gwrych Castle.
Currently, 10 celebrities are living in the castle but there are about to be joined by two more, Russell Watson and West End star Ruthie Henshall are going into camp tomorrow night.
One of the celebrities entering the castle is Ruthie Henshall, an English actress, singer, and dancer known for her work in musical theatre. Here’s everything you need to know about her.
Who is Ruthie Henshall? And what is she famous for?
Valentine Ruth Henshall, known professionally as Ruthie Henshall, began her professional stage career in 1986, before making her West End debut in Cats in 1987.
Ruthie Henshall’s multi-award winning career has seen her star in the most popular musicals of the past thirty years including Cats, Miss Saigon, Crazy For You, She Loves Me, Marguerite, Oliver!, A Chorus Line, Les Misérables, Billy Elliot and Chicago.
She has also enjoyed tremendous success in plays, in concert and on television.
Her television appearances include Valery in The Case for BBC, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law & Order, The Mysteries of 71st Street, The Sound of Musicals and as a judge on Dancing On Ice.
Ruthie’s book So You Want To Be In Musicals was released in 2012.
In 2014, Ruthie played Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot at the Victora Palace Theatre, as well as on the live video recording of the show.
Most recently, Ruthie played Mama Morton in Chicago in the West End, making her the only British actress to have played all three leading female roles in the show.
Talking about the show Ruthie, 53, admitted to being a little disappointed to be a wild card instead of being amongst the initial 10 contestants who went in at the weekend.
The stage star said: “I have been pulling my hair out for the last couple of weeks. I definitely think it feels a little bit more difficult because it feels like you're coming into school late and everybody's got their gangs already.
“So you feel a little bit like I'll be the outsider because you know they'll have been in there for a few days.
“But I'm used to being part of a company, I'm used to going in, in that situation. I'm just gonna get the most out of it as I can just throw myself into it. And then hope they've got room in their heart for another celeb.
“Who wouldn't want to be queen of the castle. You know, that is a marvelous title. But I am really not even thinking that far.”
Ruthie believes in ghosts and wouldn't be surprised to see some in the castle as she has spoken to them in the theatres she performs in.
She revealed: “I would like to think that loved ones are still with us so if that's the case then maybe there are ghosts.
"Whenever I go into a theatre once I finish the show and it is my last show in that theatre I always go out, when the ghost light is on and thank the theatre and all the theater ghosts for having me for however long I've been there. Because I think that when people perform, if you're performing in the Palladium, you know, just maybe a tiny bit of Judy Garland fairy dust is still in there.”
Where is I'm a Celebrity being filmed this year? More about Gwrych Castle
ITV announced earlier this month that the 20th series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! will be filmed at the historic Gwrych Castle, Abergele in North Wales.
Ant & Dec will host an adapted version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! live every night on ITV from the castle this Autumn.
Gwrych Castle is a Grade I listed 19th-century country house near Abergele in Conwy County Borough, Wales. The castle and 250-acre estate are privately owned and are the set for this years I'm a Celebrity series.
With views of the beautiful Welsh countryside, Gwrych Castle is nestled in a tree-lined hillside overlooking the Irish Sea. The atmospheric ruined castle with its sprawling design and turrets is spread across 250 acres of gardens and grounds.
Producers said the show has been reinvented for its new home in Gwrych Castle, Abergele, but hope everything viewers love about the series will remain.
The 19th century Grade I-listed castle has been transformed for the programme, and the celebrities will be housed in living and sleeping quarters inside the ruined building.
