How it Happened: Oregon (2-2) led from start to finish to knock off the Bears – then ranked No. 1 – on March 6 in Eugene, and Baylor (4-1) returned the favor Saturday night on its home floor in the Ferrell Center. The Bears won each heat of the compulsory event to jump out to a 39.150-38.600 advantage.
The Ducks posted three solid scores in the acro event, but the Bears answered with a pair of perfect 10s to extend their lead to a full point. Oregon had a 9.850 and a 9.950 in the pyramid event, but Baylor matched those scores and had the advantage on the inverted heat to push its lead to 98.750-97.700.
Oregon made up some ground in the toss, winning the salto and open heats to take the event, 29.150-28.850, and cut Baylor's lead to 127.600-126.750. The Ducks held a slight advantage on the salto with a 9.750 before dominating the open heat, 9.850-9.450.
The Ducks recorded a 9.900 in the six-element heat of the tumbling event and a 9.950 in the open, but Baylor was able to win the event, 58.100-56.675, to add to its lead going into the team event. Oregon ended the meet with its best score in the team event of the season, impressing with a 100.460. But Baylor bested that mark with a 101.730 to secure the victory.
