Enjoy over 100 short films from around the world at the inaugural San Diego International ShortsFest from May 14 to 16.
While the San Diego International Film Festival prepares for its 20th anniversary in October, film fanatics can tide themselves over with the ShortsFest, said Susan Clausen, festival public relations spokesperson. It showcases films less than 30 minutes in length.
The virtual festival is offering several film programs, featuring up to 11 films (or 1 ½ hours) of curated collections. The collections include:
- Animation spotlight,
- Artistic director’s spotlight,
- Documentary spotlight,
- Indie spotlight,
- International spotlight,
- Local San Diego selects,
- Student spotlight,
- Sundance selects,
- SXSW selects,
- Quarantine-inspired selects and
- U.S. spotlight.
Films will be available for on-demand viewing from 8 a.m. Friday, May 14 to midnight Sunday, May 16 at sdfilmfest.com/shortsfest. Live screenings will be available between 12:30 p.m. May 14 to 9 p.m. May 16. The festival also includes 11 live panels with filmmakers over the three days. A schedule of all live showings and panels is available on the website. The festival’s virtual Filmmaker CafĂ© will allow film enthusiasts to network with industry professionals and other film lovers, Clausen said.
In addition to the curated collections, the short films are organized online into categories including comedy/dark comedy, drama, human rights/social impact issues, international, short documentaries and members only shorts. An alphabetical list of all films is available on the website.
A three-day pass for the festival is $79, or a single day pass is $29 at sdfilmfest.com. Memberships to MySDFilmFest are also available for $100 annually or $9.99 per month. Membership includes access to members-only films at both the ShortsFest and the film festival later this year, as well as discounts.
