WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford women's lacrosse put up a fight, but came up short to visiting New Hampshire, 12-8, on Sunday at Al-Marzook Field. Senior Birdie Montes scored three goals while sophomore goalie Hanna Ramsey made a career-high 13 saves for the Hawks, who trailed by two goals with 9:49 left.

Julia Neyland led all scorers with four goals, all of which came in the second half, while Rylee Leonard also tallied four points on two scores and a pair of assists. The Hawks (0-7 overall) dip to 0-7 in league action while the Wildcats (3-4), who were coming off a three-week pause due to COVID-19 protocols, improve to 2-3 in the America East.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 12, HARTFORD 8
After falling behind early by a 3-1 margin, the Hawks stormed back to take a 4-3 advantage thanks to a pair of scores from Montes and a goal from senior Debbie Phillips. The game would see two ties at 4-4 and 5-5, before Kelsey MacCallum struck inside the final minute to send the Wilcats into the break with a 6-5 edge.

After nearly 14 scoreless minutes to open the second half, Emily Curtis broke open the stalemate with an extra-person goal at the 16:44 mark. That sparked a 3-0 run that saw a pair of unassisted scores from Neyland give the Wildcats their largest lead of the game — a four-goal advantage — with 13:50 remaining.

Down the stretch, the Hawks cut the New Hampshire lead to two on a pair of occasions. Trailing by a 10-8 margin, Montes pulled Hartford within one, but her goal was called back. From there, the Wildcats clamped down to hold the Hawks off the scoreboard and come away with the win.
